The Texas Collegiate League (TCL) is broken down into two half’s. The first half being played and completed in June and the second half taking place now in July.
How the Playoff Systems Works
The first and second place teams of the first half (June) automatically clinch the playoffs. This June the Acadiana Cane Cutters came in first place and the Brazos Valley Bombers finished second, giving both of them the clinched playoff spot and home field advantage.
For the second half (July), with a standings reset, the top two teams that finish 1st and 2nd will get a playoff birth. If Acadiana and Brazos Valley finish in the 1 and 2 spot again then the playoffs will look to the overall standings board across June and July and select the next 2 best teams (3rd and 4th place) to clinch the playoffs.
As it stands today, the River Monsters have their work cut out for them to make it to the post season. Starting 0-3 in the second half (July) the River Monsters will either need to come in 1st or 2nd in July or 3rd or 4th overall (should Acadiana and Brazos Valley finish 1st and 2nd again like June).
As the famous Yogi Berra once said, “It Aint over Till it’s over”
